We have a Candidate for County Clerk
4/11/2010
Jennifer Hagerman Monke, a lifelong resident of rural Mt. Olive, was joined by supporters on the County Courthouse steps on Saturday as she announced that she will be the Republican Candidate this November for Macoupin County Clerk.
Ms. Monke presented her resume to the Macoupin County Republican Central Committee during their meeting on April 1st. After a discussion with the Committeemen on why she wanted to run for this office and answering all their questions, a resolution was passed by the MCRCC to make Ms. Monke the Republican Candidate for County Clerk. More than double the signatures required have been gathered by friends, family and committeemen this past week to put Jennifer on the November ballot. She will be officially filing her papers with Michele Zippay, the current County Clerk, this next week.
Ms. Monke graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2004 with a B.S. in Plant & Soil Science. She is currently employed by The Mennel Milling Company in Mt. Olive as the Quality Assurance Manager. Her primary responsibility is ensuring quality products for customers throughout the country by maintaining and auditing quality and food safety records to remain in compliance with ever changing and increasing regulatory constraints of the food industry. The skills she has learned through her job experience will be necessary in effectively overseeing the vital records of this county.
Ms. Monke told the supporters in attendance that she is entering the race for County Clerk to offer a choice to Macoupin County voters. “Too many elections have gone by with no opposition. Instead of standing by and waiting for somebody else to take the lead, I am taking the initiative and stepping forward. Not as a politician, but as an ordinary, hard working resident of this county who is ready and willing to serve the people.” Ms. Monke stated, “I am the candidate with the skills, education and work ethic necessary to do the best job possible for the people of Macoupin County. I look forward to the challenge before us and with your help, we will win in November.”
Jennifer is a member of the Illinois Wheat Association and the American Association of Cereal Chemists. She and her husband Nate reside in rural Mt. Olive where they farm and raise livestock on their family farms. She is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton and has been a church organist since 2008.
